OSAKO’s, O’Diakos’ and Oamk’s Student association’s May Day Week 2024 comes again, and it’s going to be L-E-G-E-N-D-A-R-Y!
It’s once again getting close to every student’s favourite time of the year: May Day Week! This year the celebrations start on Monday, 22nd of April, and they continue all the way until 30th of April.
On the program, we’ll have some good old vappu classics, and refreshing new ones too. And as always during vappu, you can collect ten new overall patches, that will form a cool arrangement on your overalls! So, prepare your calendar, your overalls and yourself, vappu is coming!

MONDAY 22.4.
MAYDAY! – OTE RY
MAYDAY MAYDAY, it’s almost May Day! This event kicks off the May Day celebrations with a good old student party at Mango. Tickets go on sale on Kide.app on 11.4.

TUESDAY 23.4.
SKUMPPAYOGA – TOO RY
Vappuweek is here, are you ready? Are your muscles stuck and are you trying to get in shape for bars? Choose your drinks and join us in this champagne themed yoga. The ticket includes an overall patch and the participation in the class, so bring your own drinks with you. We recommend different bottled drinks, but all drinks are accepted. We don’t recommend light recyclable glasses, because those fall over easily.
The instructions on the event will be given in finnish only, but we welcome all participants. It is possible to do yoga by visual learning from our teachers example.

DAY DISCO – OUTO RY
Early bird parties the hardest! Day Disco is a May Day classic for those who can’t wait to take over the dance floor. Kaarlenholvi’s doors open at 12pm and the disco ball spins until 4pm.

TYNSKÄN TYÖNTÖ – OIO RY
Tynskä, a.k.a the barrel sauna on wheels, will be once again pushed from Villa Kaljaasi to the city centre. This is a long tradition in Oulu’s May Day Week Celebrations. The Tynskä’s final goal will also be Villa Kaljaasi, in where’ll we get to enjoy the evening together after all the hard work!

GRILLIKAUDEN AVAJAISET / THE START OF THE BBQ SEASON – KULTTI RY & LUVA RY

After some hard core BBQ, we’ll obiviously continue the night with a party. Arkko Ry’s White Lies -party will be quite literal: The point is to dress as that one little white lie that you sometimes tell! (For example “I never go to parties.)

In Finland, we have this thing called välivesi, which basically means that you have to remember to drink some water too, when drinking alcohol. So, to remind you to do that, OSAKO and Student Associations organize a whole event decicated to some välivesi. In this alcohol-free event, we’ll enjoy some fresh air and chilling together to gather some strenght for the rest of the celebrations!

Let the celebrations continue! After Välivesi-day, we’ll continue the fun with some appros, in where you’ll gather some stamps to your pass by drinking and/or eating at local restaurants and bars. After the chosen amount of stamps has been gathered, you’ll get an overall-patch. Afterparty takes place at Mango!

OSAKO’S VAPPU ORIENTEERING – OSAKO
OSAKO’s legendary Vappu orienteering is here again to end the long May Day week! Gather up a team with 3-5 members, pick a funny theme and sign up for the battle for the kingship of May Day!
The orienteering itself is free, but you’ll have to sign up your team in Kide.app. There will also be an afterparty, where we’ll announce the winners and enjoy the last bits of May Day. More info about the orienteering and afterparty can be found from OSAKO’s Instagram.
